PROGRAMS

 Dressmaking Modules of Study

It takes about 2 Years [portioned in smaller modules] of study to complete if you approach it like full-time learning and its corresponding homework load.

In truth, it could take several years to fully study and complete all the projects if you approach it part time. But that’s totally OK too. Couture apprentices invest years of their time before becoming experts.

  • Principles of Couture Design.
  • Essential competent sewing skills.
  • Textile basics.
  • Technical sketches.
  • Pattern making.
  • Custom fitting.
  • Planning and organizing work tasks and schedules.
  • Assessing, estimating and purchasing for projects.
  • Accurate record keeping for billing.
  • Creating your own contract for clients.

 Couturier Tailor Modules of Study

Many Module Categories are included for advanced study or professional development.

This would take 2 years to complete if you approached it like full-time study. You can take these modules at a pace that suits you over time, like part-time learning.

This craft is an an Art-form.  A life long learning journey with many pathways!

  • Advanced methods and techniques for those who have successfully completed the Dressmaking Module Levels
  • Illustrating basics – styles and body forms.
  • Complex pattern making techniques.
  • Utilizing materials such as leather, fur, beaded fabric, etc.
  • Underpinning and structuring methods.
  • Advanced tailoring for ladies and men’s wear.
  • Creating original embellishments.
  • Discussions for developing client relations.

  2. Hi!Is your certificate equivalent to a masters degree?

    1. Hello Sophia, EHC’s Dressmaking Certificate program is designed for self directed employment as well as the foundation program to enter the EHC Couturier/Tailoring Diploma program. The Diploma program is designed for self directed employment or free lance work, as well as entry level positions for apprenticeships. Both programs are recognized by the Advanced Innovation and Advanced Education government department of Alberta, Canada. As such, there is no equivalent for our Certificate and Diploma programs. The entire curriculum is unique and original, written by the Founder, based on her education and 60 plus years of professional experience in the trade of couturier and tailor in Europe and Canada.
The reason that Ecole Holt Couture was established and its sole existence is to preserve and pass on traditional practical skills with its related professional technical knowledge not currently being taught in fashion or design institutions. EHC programs combine theory with relevant practical experience in structured modules via an apprenticeship like experience – so very much like full immersion learning. Cheers! J

  5. Hello,

I am interested in applying for the certificate and diploma programs. What I would like to know is whether your program is accredited by the government, so that if required, student loans would be accessible? If not, because I am first nations are there other resources that you may have dealt with previously that are available for funding your program?

I would be looking at starting your program of 2021.

    Thank you for your help

    Trista Melting Tallow

    1. Hello Trista! Thanks so much for your interest in Ecole Holt Couture and for your inquiry. EHC will not be enrolling any full-time students to our current Certificate and Diploma programs as of January 2021. We are currently transitioning to shorter duration course modules via online delivery that can be studied on a much more personal time line than were our full-time on-site programs. Our status as a Alberta and Canada government accredited program will therefore change, and as such there will not be any further student loan access. We are not aware of other funding resources. As EHC has not yet finalised the cost rates for the course modules, we cannot provide that information yet. Updates will be posted on this blog site, our FB page and our website as it becomes available. Please feel free to be added to our email list by request by contacting info@ecoleholtcouture.com. Sincerely, Ecole Holt Couture.
